The average parcel size in e-commerce shipments – a variable in coping with congestion in carrier networks?

Parcels currently shipped by web shops seem to be packaged rather inefficiently. This inefficiency can be measured rather easily by comparing the volume in a parcel that is consumed by goods, to the volume that is used up by empty space (e.g. air).
